Employed at White Cross Mills as an apprentice electrical engineer. Third eldest son of Mr & Mrs W.J. Whitehead, who was bandmaster of Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment (c. 1884) and a conductor of the Territorial band.


Brothers serving, Private Reginald and Stretcher bearer Wilfred Vere Whitehead, both same Regiment, Private Herbert, 9th Royal Fusiliers.
