Whitehead Wilfred Vere - Stretcher bearer 1/5th Battalion, Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment missing at Givenchy, France, 1918, age 20, address 16 Beach Street,

Bare, Morecambe, enlisted under age in 1914.



Died as a Prisoner of War in a Cologne hospital. Mr and Mrs Whitehead had learnt not so long ago of the death of their son Cyril killed in action; their 4 sons had all served in the war..


Son of Mr & Mrs W J Whitehead, Mr Whitehed was formerly bandmaster of the same Regiment and still instructs Ripley Hospital boys. His brother machine gunner Cecil V Whitehead, same Regiment was killed in action, June 1917, and two others are serving; Private Reginald, same Regiment and Sapper H Whitehead, Royal Engineers, both are draughtsmen by trade.
