J. Richardson was a business in Bare trading at 39 Princes Crescent (where Marions shop has just traded for over 25 years) and specialised in fruit and flowers. Val Woodhouse who ran the Coffee Shoppe has kept these business receipts of Richardson's from over 75 years ago and they're in very good condition for their age. The world was in a state of change between 1936 and 1937 with Germany preparing for its '1,000 years of Reich', Franklin D. Roosevelt was installed as U.S. President for the second of his four terms of office and the Hindenburg exploded in New Jersey effectively halting the worlds' appetite for airship travel. It seems a world away from the quiet goings on in Bare village and its comparatively tranquil existence. Enjoy having a very privaleged look at one small business and its orders from other local and not so local suppliers and services. Many thanks to Val Woodhouse and Heather Bolton for this fascinating collection.
